"Everyone Isn't Smiling"
A Look At Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

(When It's Not There)
Tell Me How You Really Feel

Yoneily had really had enough. At work she felt invisible and Bob just proved it. After his trip, he came back awakened to new things, but Yoneily was there all along. She had tried, not only with Bob, but other co-workers to bring her life experiences into the environment. They did not acknowledge her, include her, or take her efforts seriously.

Although Bob had good intentions, she was offended and began to shut down. The few smiles she shared became nonexistent.

Bob felt horrible. He knew he was a little closed off, but he didn't realize how he made others feel until he recalled how others treated him, good and bad on his trip.

He decided to reach out to Leilani to see what he could do to fix this situation. Maybe he could even be a positive example in the office. He realized he did not appreciate the diversity Yoneily brought. When she sought equitable treatment he ignored it. He also did not include her in vital conversations at work. Bob had work to do.
